Nineteen members of your Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue Firefighters participated in some great on-going continuing education this past week in preparation for their rope rescue and confined space technician courses in April & May which covered topics contained within the NFPA 1006 (Rope Rescue) Operations and Technician level skills. This particular Rope Rescue Technician continuing education provides not only a opportunity for your Hometown Firefighters here at Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue that are at the technician level to hone in the skills needed to provide a higher proficient technical rescue approach and for it's newer members to gain an awareness in technical training and how to provide the operational support that would be required on technical rescue incidents. The skill sets reviewed during this great SFRT sponsored opportunity were proper equipment selection, inspection and maintenance, knots, anchor points, Mechanical advantage systems, belay techniques, knot passing through rappels. Practical application was taught through scenarios drawn from actual rescue experiences. All of the members here at Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue regardless if they are already technician level or not are required to attend the various specialized awareness thru operations training in the specific areas of Rope Rescue, varied Water Rescue, Boat Operator, Hazardous Materials Technical Level, Confined Space, Grain Bin and Farm Machinery Rescue in order to be able to proficiently function and operate with their specialized rescue truck on any of these types of incidents and ultimately obtaining Technician Level certifications which have been scheduled to be finished this year. |
