About
The Lake Jericho Volunteer Fire and Rescue Cadet Firefighter Program, officially established in 2008, is open to youth with good moral character 15-18 years of age is designed to introduce interested youth in the community to the fire and emergency services industry.
Mission
Education and promotion of youth in the emergency services, community service, and carry on the progression of the Fire and Emergency Services while teaching and maintaining it's rich values and traditions. "Honesty, Integrity and Loyalty"
Description
Cadets are trained in accordance with the industry's national standards and the Commonwealth of Kentucky Fire Commission requirements and guidelines for junior firefighter programs. This is in order to ensure the highest quality and safety of the Cadet firefighter and prepare them to better assist the department's firefighters on the fire ground as well as the first responder and other services provided by the department. While not allowed to participate in the kinds of hazardous or dangerous activities associated with fire suppression, skills learned through training alongside the departments firefighters will help prepare these young men and women for a great start in a rewarding career or a continued successful volunteer member in the fire service. We put a strong priority on school, education performance, pride and professionalism.
General Information
Cadet Firefighters of the Lake Jericho Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department have the opportunity to acquire the following skills:
Firefighting Skill/Performance/Orientation/Course Work - Ladders, fire suppression support, ventilation, scene composure, knots, SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) and team work.
Leadership development for our community youth, mentoring and producing positive role models, protecting the fire services traditional values, and ensuring provision of its service, and training those who are tomorrow's leaders.
Educating not only the youth but the parents and mentors on the importance of encouraging volunteerism. Education parents and mentors on the important of encouraging volunteerism.
EMS/Basic Life Support skills - CPR, medical emergencies, trauma, and splinting and shock management training.
Fire Prevention/Inspections - National, State, and Local codes, building construction, inspection procedures and public education.
Department Standards - record keeping, and report completion, customer, attitude, health and safety issues and grooming.
Interpersonal Skills/Public Relations - Attitude, decision making, team participation, work habits and quality of work.
Station Work - Maintenance of station, grounds, and observance of safety procedures, cooperation and maintenance of reports. Become a valued member of the fire department on a day to day basis.
Planned Personal Development - Physical fitness, education and certification.
