Our community can now access free Narcan at the Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue Department, thanks to a collaborative agreement between our valued partners at the North Central District Health Department and the Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue Department Community Progression Steering Committee.
Narcan, also known as naloxone, is a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose and help save lives. This initiative is particularly beneficial for individuals battling addiction, those with family members taking opioids, or patients with opioid prescriptions.
The goal of this program is to prevent complications and save lives. Fire Chief Mike Schaub stated at the time of this release, “It is important to note that this effort does not condone drug usage in any way but rather provides a vital resource to those who need it.”
As a small hometown, professional, all-volunteer fire department, we believe it’s important to continue highlighting our commitment to seeking out and entering into positive collaborative approaches to enhance the health and safety of our community. Significant strides are being made in overdose response, prevention, and education. We urge our community to recognize the importance of utilizing all these life-saving resources that are becoming readily available.
The Narcan box, similar to a newspaper stand box, is accessible in front of the Lake Jericho Fire Station and contains instructions on how to use it. The availability of Narcan is a significant step forward in addressing the opioid crisis that has plagued not only our community but our country for years. With the Narcan box accessible to the public, family members of loved ones battling opioid dependence, individuals battling addiction, or those at risk of overdose can have quick access to this life-saving drug. |
